Let it snow! (and other geek)

on Wednesday, December 7th, 2005 ... ob: geek + general + photo + skip and smile

It’s official, ski santa fe will be opening this Saturday. We’re a far cry behind the rest of the country in snowfall this year, but who cares! I’m goin snowboarding Saturday ;).

We will be successful when we can find every digital photo in the world.“, that is, every single photo containing your face. Finally applying recent text and face recognition advancements to the massive quantity of publicly indexed digital photos, riya promises to bring you every image on earth you happen to have found your way into. (via enjoy-surveillance)

In rss, Track your favorite member of congress’ votes via rss.

Those in Santa Fe, I’ll be round and about the santa fe film festival much of the next 4 days, come visit.

I’ve held myself to a post-once-a-month minimum for some time now on this blog. Initially intended as just that, a minimum, it seems to have turned into a rigid norm. As an experiment, I’ll be holding myself to once-a-week through december. I expect it will be painless, and likely quite enjoyable.

Sidebar greets to morgan (fatgrrl, !!!) and ye ‘ole john schott (ratchetup, see you in Berlin!). Also enjoy-surveillance (in german) alongside dorkbot and near-near-future.

Sad to see will’s blog end, keep in touch!

whew.. first post since August that I didn’t mention wikipedia, i mean, drat….

A trip into the arb

While I’m new to the game, thought I’d play with a few of the photoblog traditions out there.
This week’s photo friday theme, silhouette.

Made it, barely at points. Santa Fe – Arches – Salt Lake City – Reno – San Francisco – Phoenix – Grand Canyon – Santa Fe. Hope everyone had as much fun as we did along the way ;). Check out a few photos from the trip.

Flickr , here

on Monday, December 27th, 2004 ... ob: geek + photo

I’ve finally jumped on the flickr bandwagon. You can see a random photo from my stream on the right, above the links. Check out this flickr group taking pictures of their hands, Hands to S. E. Asia, as a tribute to the tsunami victims.

I usually prefer to use simply ‘here’ as a handle on message boards and community sites, but a game beat me to it as a flickr user. Fortunately, it is right up my alley ‘meta.pervasive.gaming’, and I’ll look into running an instance of it as soon as possible! The 0009.org crew looks to have a number of top notch resources, links, and ideas surrounding pervasive yet clever tech. I look forward to following their tree a bit further, and sending pictures of an upcoming here game potentially customized for a less urban environment.

The only feature I’m awaiting with some anxiety is the ability to download all stored images at some future venture. Fortunately, I am not alone in this request.

I’m exhasted from the busiest day yet at the ski basin. A few more days, then off to San Fran for nye2k5!!

Kurt Cobain visits Chernobyl…

on Tuesday, April 6th, 2004 ... ob: geek + one liners + photo + travel

Finally getting around to posting old links. Watch this blog blow back up without a girl to distract ;).

Ryan sends one of the coolest photologs I’ve ever seen following a russian scientist with a penchant for motorcycles through the Chernobyl dead zone. Furthermore, the thematic connection with tarkovsky’sStalker‘ is, indeed, impressive. Ryan also pointed out, to takovsky’s credit, Stalker’s arrival 7 years before Chernobyl’s claim to fame.

Mike sends the GUIdebook – Graphical User Interface Gallery to check out interfaces back through Win 1.0 and Mac System 1.

The apartment and employment search continues.. I rediscovered idealist.org today which may turn up some interesting new leads. I was also amused to learn that /the/ craig of craigslist was swayed by the sxsw geeks to switch to a powerbook.

Corinne and I drove by Kurt Cobain’s old residence today, the 10th anniversary. Purely an act of pop-voyeurism, we weren’t disappointed by the decent crowd, tv cameras, and security present at the location. There were definitely a few guests at the hostel the past few days in town purely for the occasion, some of whom attempted to reach his birthplace in Aberdeen.
