when i need a spelling…

on Thursday, February 28th, 2002 ... ob: pre 2005

When I need a spelling or definition these days, I use a paper dictionary only about 5-10% of the time. While at a computer, I’ve been using m-w.com out of habit and speed. On my phone, I’ve been using a WAP interface with dictionary.com mostly due to a default link.

Beyond simple spelling or definition though, I’m quite excited to find that wordnet has a WAP interface now as well.. I’m curious as to what other linguistic monsters the language of the web has spawned?.. more if when I find them.. send links, please. ;)

argh!.. it’s true, i can’t stop thinking about tap, i’ll be training my dancer on the 1st.

Along the same lines, it would be fun to write a virus with the goal of grabbing the most frequently accessed information on any given system and sending that off to other systems. After all, if it’s being accessed so frequently, it must be important.. might as well let other computers know about it so they can use it as well. In the interest of computer equity of course.

on Tuesday, February 26th, 2002 ... ob: pre 2005

apparently, taking an old idea, adding a bit of corporate support, a little government funding, and the word ‘art‘ is enough to get Tap by James Buckhouse in Collaboration with Holly Brubach a display in new york city. In all fairness, it is cool that beaming coreographed dances around is possible. I’ll check it out and likely change my opinion after spending 10 hours training one ;). It’s too bad daliworld‘s net wide aquarium seems to have fizzled… but now that i’ve found progress quest I feel oh so content.

A googlebot though, that gets me going ;).

popblog put herebox under music/electronic/techno. hey hey.. wonder how i ended up there ;). thanks for the link.

memepool‘s mention of the ability to use google in pig latin (and many others reminded me that i’d meant to mention the google zeitgeist a while back. The 2001 overview and timeline is a really cool look at trends from the past year.. over 150 million queries a day offers quite an amazing angle to look at culture I think.

Diller + Scofidio’s ‘blur building’ is only one of the cool things going on at the swiss expo 02. (looking for a summer job?)

I was lucky enough to watch what I generally refer to only as ‘lain’ in seattle (thanks jen and megan).. I’d never looked for further resources though.. luckily, memepool comes through again directing me toward the slightly outdated, but nonetheless resourceful Serial Experiments Lain: The Cyberia Cafe.
